The activities that are included in an income generation project depend on the local context. When designing and implementing these activities, civil society organizations should consider the circumstances of the target community. Income generation projects can have many benefits, including: Reducing poverty, Improving community wellbeing, Promoting empowerment, Promoting self-reliance, and Promoting community development.

What is SHG (Self-Help Group)?

A Self-Help Group (SHG) is a group of people who come together to address common problems and improve their living conditions. SHGs are typically informal, voluntary, and open to new members. They are characterized by: Shared responsibility, Clear goals, Democratic decision-making, and Basic rules and guidelines. SHGs can be a vehicle for change for the poor and marginalized. They can help people tackle problems like poverty, illiteracy, lack of skills, and lack of formal credit. SHGs can also be financial intermediaries that help members save and lend money. Members contribute to a common fund, and the group then lends small loans to members for various purposes. In India, many SHGs are linked with banks for micro-credit. The ideal size of an SHG is 10 to 20 members. They are not required to be registered under any Societies Act, State cooperative Act, or a partnership firm.

What is our IGP for the SHG?

WBDC is dedicated to empowering Self-Help Groups (SHGs) by providing a comprehensive range of services aimed at enhancing their welfare and economic sustainability. We offer specialized training in handicrafts and traditional handwork techniques, enabling members to create high-quality products that can be marketed locally and beyond. In addition, we focus on sustainable agriculture and farming practices, providing workshops on modern techniques and resource management to boost productivity. To bridge the digital divide, we also conduct digital literacy programs, equipping SHG members with essential skills to navigate online platforms for marketing, information access, and financial management. Through these initiatives, we aim to foster self-reliance, improve livelihoods, and strengthen the overall community.
